I was commissioned by Trinosophes (a cafe, project space, music venue) in Detroit, MI to make a permanent cup installation that would serve as their cafe's house cups.
The cups and shelving units that I produced are an investigation of the boundaries of functionality, exploring the definition of functionality and the ways in which something might gain it. Inspired by the state of structures and materials in Detroit, and driven by the fact that they would be used and experienced in the cafe, they suggest to the potential of those structures and materials by subverting how one might traditionally interact with a drinking vessel in a café setting.
If you would like to pay them a visit, please stop in at Trinosophes and tell Joel and Rebecca that I say "Hi." - 1464 Gratiot Ave, Detroit, MI 48207
